Should you choose the first Los Angeles real estate agent who answers when you call?
We hear a lot about Los Angeles home buyers and sellers who do just that. They want service immediately, so when an agent doesn’t answer, they move on to another agent. Then they choose to work with the first one who answers their phone.
Is that really the best way to choose a Los Angeles real estate agent?
No, it isn’t. In fact, it could be a very poor way to choose.
For one thing, the fact that the agent is available to answer immediately just might mean that they don’t have any other clients. You might get lucky and call a top producing agent when he or she is available, but that would be pure luck.
It would mean that you caught them when they were between appointments, off the phone, and working on “behind the scenes” tasks like ad writing, creating a market report, or doing research for a market analysis.
It could mean something worse – that they disrespect their current clients enough to take a call while showing homes, discussing a new listing, writing an offer for a buyer, or presenting an offer to a seller.
Do you really want an agent who will interrupt a discussion with you to take a call from someone else?
How should you choose a Los Angeles agent?
Take the time to learn a little about the real estate agent. If someone has been referred to you or if you’ve met them at some social function, visit their website, read their blog posts, read their testimonials, and read their agent bios. If you’re choosing a listing agent, go see how their listings are represented on line.
All of those activities will give you a good feel for their personality and the way they do business. But there is one more step – talking with them. Don’t make up your mind until you’ve met the agent and know that you’ll feel comfortable working with them.
Please know that when I represent you in the purchase or sale of a home I will never answer a call while I am with you, unless we’re expecting a call that concerns your interests.
Further, I will always answer your calls if I am not with another client. When I can’t answer immediately, I will return that call as soon as possible. The same holds true for email and text communications.
