While the celebrities, billionaires, and sports stars living in L.A.’s Bel Air neighborhood often get the attention, there is also a lot to say about the Bel Air real estate scene.
Famous buyers and sellers, strict building regulations, and setting the mark for the priciest homes in the nation are just a few aspects that make the Bel Air housing market far from boring.
Here are the top five Bel Air real estate stories from 2017 (so far).
1. Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West Sell their Bel Air Crest Home for $17.8 million
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West recently sold their Bel Air mansion, which they bought for $11 million in 2013, for $17.8 million.
Kim supposedly gave the new buyer, a Ukranian entrepreneur named Marina Acton, a personal tour of the property.
The couple completely transitioned the home from a Spanish Mediterranean design to a modern artistic style. It is this artistic look that sold the new owner, as she tells TMZ she finds the design inspiring.
2. The Most Expensive House in the U.S. Goes on the Market
The home of late Jerry Perencho, the billionaire former chairman of Univision, was listed on the Bel Air real estate market in August as the country’s most expensive home. The asking price?
You may recognize the house. It is the same home that appears in The Beverly Hillbillies.
The property includes 10.3 acres of land, a 25,0000 square-foot mansion with a 75-foot swimming pool, and five neighboring houses.
3. Beyonce and Jay Z Lay $88 Million Routes in Bel Air
Beyonce and Jay Z purchased their first home in Los Angeles in August 2017.
Interestingly, they did not pay cash for the home. They took out a $52.8 million mortgage, which is approximately $250,000 per month.
The mansion comes with many features fit for the Queen B, including 30,000 square feet of space inside the six structures, 10,000 square feet outside, a spa, media room, and four swimming pools.
4. Mohamed Hadid’s Illegal Mansion Building
In July, hotel and mansion constructor Mohamed Hadid was fined and sentenced with community service and three years probation for violating Bel Air’s building codes.
Hadid was building a 30,000 square-foot mansion which the city revoked permits in 2014 after finding illegal additions such as a full level under the basement level.
Recently, however, neighbors are complaining that construction is continuing on the property without permits.
5. One of the Country’s Most Exclusive Lots Hits the Market for $60 Million
It’s rare to find large parcels of land up for grabs in one of the country’s most exclusive neighborhoods.
Last month, 4.6 acres of developable land in went on the Bel Air real estate market for $60 million. It features gorgeous green space and views of the city, canyon, and the ocean.
A space like this won’t last long on the market. I’m sure we will be seeing the construction of a just-as-beautiful mansion to fit the space soon.
