Safety First This Holiday Season – Whether Your
Los Angeles Home is For Sale or Not
This week nearly every Los Angeles home as well as homes all across the nation will be filled with new electronics – from television sets, to iPads, to game consoles, to computers, and beyond. Safety first is a must.
Naturally, many of these items come in clearly marked boxes, and few people have both the extra space and the desire to keep those boxes indefinitely. If your home has garbage service, they’ll likely be hauled out to the curb for the truck to collect on its usual rounds.
And therein lies the danger, this is why you should always think safety first. I don’t know why anyone thinks crime is the path to a happy life, but far too many do, so crooks DO prowl neighborhoods looking for homes that are filled with new goodies. The sight of your boxes on the curb is all it takes for them to mark your house for burglary.
This year, instead of merely piling those boxes by the trash cans, take the time to break them down and stuff them inside a trash bag. Better yet, flatten them, put them in the trunk of your car to be out of sight, and take them somewhere where they’ll be recycled.
One more thing… if you’re going to be out of town vacationing or visiting family or friends during the holidays, don’t broadcast the fact on your social networks. More than one home has been burglarized and even ransacked because the homeowner – or their children – were not using safety first and told their Facebook friends that they were going to be away .
