When your offer is accepted on a house you’re probably feeling loads of excitement. That happiness is short lived when you realize how much work there is ahead of you there are important things to remember when moving.
People say that the most stressful life events include a death, a birth, divorce, and moving.
Moving is never fun, but there are ways to relieve a little of that stress.
Whether you’re looking to buy or sell, you’ll end up moving at some point. The average person moves about 11 times over the course of their life!
Organization is key! Here are 5 important things to remember when moving!
1. Start Early
It’s understandable if you procrastinate getting started on your move. Life gets in the way, and you keep saying you’ll start tomorrow. Then you wake up and remember that your move is two weeks away!
Don’t get caught scrambling. You should start preparing two months in advance.
Start getting quotes from movers and collecting boxes and bubble wrap. Got kids? Send their school records over to their new district.
The more you take care of now, the less stress you’ll have when the big day comes.
2. Make Yourself a Moving Binder
In it, you can keep track of moving related paperwork. Quotes from movers, receipts, and inventory lists.
A great way to keep organized is getting printable moving checklists online. Pop it in your binder and keep track of everything you still have to do.
3. Put Aside What You Need and Pack the Rest
Don’t put off packing until a week before because you think you need all your stuff out. Start packing a month in advance. Books, decor, seasonal clothes; there are so many things you won’t need during that time.
Two weeks out, set aside bare essentials of what you’ll need to get by. Now pack the rest. Do this, and you won’t be frantically packing a week before.
4. Make an Inventory List
An inventory list will help assist both you and the movers in making sure everything makes it to the new house. It’s a list of everything the movers will be handling.
While you do this, think about what, if anything you’ll have insured. Any big ticket items should be insured well in advance of your move.
You don’t want to forget to do this and then a mover shatters your crystal chandelier!
5. Confirm All the Details
One of the most important things to remember when moving? Confirming dates and times with all people involved on the big day.
Check in with the moving company. Make sure they know where they’re going and when. Confirm with them everything you need to have prepared for when they get there.
If you have kids and pets that will be looked after, make sure that’s all squared away.
See, There Are Many Things to Remember When Moving!
But as long as you stay organized and prepare well in advance, you’ll be fine!
